Terms & Trademark Policy

What Copycats does
Copycats loads publicly accessible web pages in a headless browser and reads the computed CSS values from the live DOM — colours, typography, spacing, shadows, border radii, and layout patterns. These values are then packaged into configuration files (Tailwind config, CSS variables, Figma variables, design tokens, etc.) for designers and developers to use as reference material.
We do not copy proprietary source code. We do not reproduce logos, images, trademarks, or protected brand assets. We do not imply affiliation with, endorsement by, or partnership with any listed website.
Trademarks & brand references
All trademarks, service marks, brand names, and logos referenced on Copycats are the property of their respective owners. Reference to these marks is nominative — i.e. used solely to identify the source of the publicly visible design values being described. Copycats is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any listed website.
Site removal (takedown policy)
If you are the owner of a site listed on Copycats and would like it removed, we will honour your request within 48 hours without argument. No legal notice required. Just send us a messagechoosing “Remove my site” and include the domain. We'll ask you to confirm ownership (an email from an address at the domain, or a short DNS record works), and then the domain is permanently blocked from extraction and pulled from our listings.
Blocking is enforced at the extraction layer — even if someone tries to submit the URL again later, we refuse. Existing cached data for the domain is deleted.
Fair use & attribution
CSS values such as hex codes, font family names, and spacing numbers are facts, not creative expression. Extracting and displaying these values is lawful. We credit the source site with a visible attribution and link, and we do not monetise any individual listed site's assets — the paid tiers pay for our infrastructure and tooling, not for rights to anyone's design.
Intended use
Copycats is a design research and learning tool. Extract colour palettes, typography, spacing, and other publicly visible styling values from sites you admire, and use them as reference when building your own projects, client work, or design education.
Your responsibilities
By submitting a URL for extraction, you confirm that:
- You have a legitimate interest in analysing the site (your own site, public reference material, client research, or design education).
- You will use the outputs for your own projects, client work, or design research — not to impersonate, mislead, or defraud.
- If you're researching a competitor's site, you're doing so lawfully under applicable local laws.
How our crawler behaves
We treat each extraction as a single page request. We don't crawl recursively on the free tier. We rate-limit our own worker and honour any 429/403 responses from origin servers. If you're a site operator and want to block Copycats entirely, see the site removal section below.
Using the downloaded files
Files you download from Copycats (Tailwind configs, CSS variables, design tokens, etc.) are provided as reference tooling to help you build your own designs. You are responsible for the final product — don't use the output to impersonate any brand, mislead users about affiliation, or reproduce trademarked identities.
Rate limits & fair usage
Free users get 3 extractions per day. Pro users get unlimited extractions. We reserve the right to rate-limit or block abusive patterns (e.g. automated scraping at volume, attempts to circumvent paid tiers).
Refunds
One-off purchases unlock an immediate download of digital goods and are therefore non-refundable once payment clears, as is standard for digital downloads under UK consumer law (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, Regulation 37(1)(a)).
Pro subscriptions can be cancelled at any time from your settings page. You'll keep access until the end of the current billing period. We don't issue partial refunds for unused time, but we're happy to help if something's gone wrong — get in touch.
Privacy & data
See our full privacy policy. Short version: we store your account email (if you subscribe), a SHA-256 hash of your IP (for rate-limiting), and your extraction history. Payments via Stripe, email via Resend. No analytics cookies, no third-party trackers, no data sales. Email joe@primeeight.co.uk to access or delete your data at any time.
